986 Endurance Race Car: The Design That Never Was

04/06/2026

After a few months working as a Fulfillment Specialist, Flat 6 Motorsports gave me the opportunity to turn a dream into reality by designing the livery for the company's first race car, a Porsche 986 Boxster, marking our venture into endurance racing. This project allowed me to combine my passion for automotive design with my work at Flat 6, bringing the brand to the track through a design that represented a new chapter in the company's motorsports journey.

After downloading the 5-point template, I began establishing the visual direction for the livery. I knew from the start that I wanted to maintain a boxy, geometric design language that complemented the shape and structure of the Flat 6 Motorsports logo. This would serve as the foundation for the overall design as I moved into the next stage of development.

With the overall direction established, I moved into the final stages of the design, refining the shapes, adjusting the layout, and finalizing the placement of Flat 6 branding. Once the design came together, I shared the concept with the company to present my creative direction and showcase the completed livery ahead of its anticipated debut on track.

Despite reaching the final stages of the project, the livery never made it onto the car. Additional mechanical work was needed to prepare the 986 for competition, ultimately preventing the wrap from being printed in time for the scheduled race weekends.

Although the design never came to life on track, the project remains a meaningful milestone in my journey with Flat 6 Motorsports. It gave me the opportunity to contribute to the company's first endurance racing venture and bring my passion for automotive graphics into a professional setting.

While the livery remained a concept, the Porsche 986 Boxster went on to make its mark on track. Across race weekends at Atlanta Motorsports Park and Virginia International Raceway, the car demonstrated its potential, securing a best finish of second place at AMP before taking victory in one of its two races at VIR.

Although the finished design never made it onto the car, its racing results marked a successful start to Flat 6 Motorsports' endurance racing venture.
