981 Endurance Race Car: A Second Chance at the Track

10/28/2026

After the original 986 Boxster race car project never made it to the track, I was determined not to let the next opportunity pass me by. When Flat 6 Motorsports acquired a Porsche 981 Cayman S endurance race car, I stepped up to lead the design process once again.

Within the first few days of the car arriving, I had already developed three different livery variations in iRacing, exploring how the Flat 6 Motorsports branding could translate to a real-world race car. While iRacing's 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR wasn't a perfect match for the 981, it gave me a good starting point to visualize the overall design structure on a similar Cayman platform.

After reviewing all three concepts, the team and I settled on the third version to move forward with.

The team wanted to keep the front end white to make the aftermarket headlights and RS-style fenders stand out. The rear was designed around black, complementing the GTS taillights and giving the car a more stealthy look. With the front and rear established, I had full creative freedom over the sides. I used a balanced mix of white, black, and red to tie everything together, creating an aggressive design without letting any single color overpower the others.

Watching the design take shape throughout the wrap process was a major step in bringing the concept to life, transforming a once all white Cayman S into a car ready for endurance competition.

As the build progressed, the car went through its initial shakedowns, allowing the team to work through the final preparations before racing.

Additional sponsors were incorporated into the design as the project came together, completing the car's identity ahead of its competitive debut. Its first stop on the track will be Daytona International Speedway, where the team and I plan to make our debut in the Zenith Racing Series with a 12-hour endurance event.
